- At the age of 10 he went to live with his grandmother whilst he attended Sydney Grammar School.
- When he was 16 years of age he published an article in the Sydney Mail which got him the nick-name Banjo.
- When he was 31 Banjo wrote 2 of his most remebered poems:
Waltzing Matilda and The Man From Snowy River. - In 1899 (when he was 35) he travelled to Africa as a correspondent for The Sydney Herald during the Boer War.
- IN 1903 Banjo decided to get married to Alice Walker in Tenterfield.
- Banjo and Alice have a new born baby and named the girl Grace
Paterson. - Banjo and Alice have their second baby and named him Hugh Paterson.
